More pensions calculator flexibility needed, says Fair Investment Company

The Fair Investment Company has called on the government to make pensions more flexible with the feeder-fund model.

George Ladds, head of pensions at the firm, made his comments after the government called for evidence with regards to proposals allowing early access to retirement savings.

He explained that the feeder-fund system fits closely with his suggestion that Isas and other savings products should be linked to longer-term propositions.

In his view, it allows for a more flexible structure than the other proposals available can offer.

Mr Ladds suggested a loan and permanent withdrawal options could be dangerous, while the 25 per cent tax-free model is not far-reaching enough.

"I have long called for a simpler pension system that makes saving easy and relevant," he added.

Submissions for the Treasury consultation - launched on December 13th - must be received by February 25th 2011, with the government department providing an email address for concerns to be sent to.
