Sainsburys Finance warns consumers over crucial checks

There are several vital checks people should be aware of to ensure they do not open themselves up to fire risks, according to a source from Sainsburys Finance.

Ben Tyte, home insurance manager at the firm, said consumers should ensure they have checked their fire alarm is working before beginning festivities over the holidays.

He suggested people should avoid leaving candles lit while unattended and be careful not to overload plug sockets.

Mr Tyte remarked: "The festive season is great fun but people should be wary of the potential fire risks involved and costly damage that can result from fire incidents."

Sainsburys Finance revealed that its research shows December to be the peak month of the year for accidental fires.

Last week, the company praised shoppers in the UK for their "savvy" tactics, since many people are planning to make large purchases before the VAT hike in January, with about £53 billion of spending to be brought forward to avoid the increase.
