Sainsburys Finance encourages customers to read terms and conditions

A source from Sainsburys Finance has pointed out how frustrating it is to find out that a service is more expensive than a person first imagined and urged people to avoid this by reading the terms of their financial products.

Stuart McKeggie, head of credit cards at the firm, made his comments regarding foreign exchange fees charged on credit cards.

He noted that a "well-budgeted break" can be messed up when a provider adds on a raft of charges for having used the account abroad.

Mr McKeggie said: "It's important card users understand exactly how their plastic works for them, especially when it comes to rates and fees."

The Sainsburys Finance spokesman suggested travellers use the company's Gold Card, which does not charge for cash withdrawals or foreign exchange.

Last week, the organisation estimated that £6.7 billion will be spent by consumers in the final week before Christmas on items such as presents, food and drink and toiletries.
