Co-operative insurance for young drivers customers offered winter tips

A series of tips on how to cope with wintry conditions has been produced by the Co-operative, with a source from the firm urging people to drive responsibly.

David Neave, director of general insurance at the company, pointed out that motorists should ensure they allow more time to complete their journey over the Christmas period.

The Co-operative encouraged people to check their tyres, monitor anti-freeze levels before they leave and be sure to carry a mobile phone and a emergency kit for the car that includes a blanket and a torch among other vital items.

Mr Neave added: "The cold weather is having a real impact on motorists right across the country and we have seen a 40 per cent uplift in claims over the last weekend."

This week, the AA noted that the ice and snow was a factor in 70 per cent of all the claims it received relating to accidents over the weekend.
