Time to review mortgages, says unbiased.co.uk

Homeowners should review their mortgage deal regularly if they want to be sure of securing the best arrangement, according to an expert from unbiased.co.uk.

Karen Barrett, chief executive of the company, suggested many people may be missing out on lower interest rates if they do not check the market to see what is available.

"With the base rate remaining at 0.5 per cent for this period, it is easy to see why homeowners have become less vigilant in reviewing their mortgage," noted Ms Barrett.

She highlighted research by unbiased.co.uk showing 48 per cent of mortgage customers have not reviewed their home finance arrangement since the base rate fell to its current level.

Ms Barrett pointed out that many consumers have not checked what else is available in 22 months.

The Monetary Policy Committee voted again to keep the base rate at 0.5 per cent this month, with the minutes for its meeting published today (January 26th) and sure to be placed under scrutiny by industry commentators.
