F&C Investments notes worrying pensions calculator stats

Too many people have not put aside enough money to ensure a comfortable retirement, according to a senior source from F&C Investments.

Jason Hollands, head of corporate affairs at the firm, suggested it is a concern how many consumers are putting themselves in a difficult situation when they retire.

He pointed out that the situation will simply get worse the longer people wait before remedying their long-term financial future.

Mr Holland's remarks were made after an F&C Investments-commissioned survey found 41 per cent of UK adults do not have a pension.

"Although most people understand the principle that they are going to have to take more responsibility for their financial future, it is always worrying to see statistics like these," he added.

This week, head of UK equities at the company Peter Lees labelled the economic data recorded in 2010 "volatile" and suggested both consumers and the financial industry are nervous about the situation.
