Retirement calculator debate encouraged by NS&I

Families have been urged to talk about pension plans so the younger generation can benefit from their parents' experience.

Tim Mack, spokesperson for the company, described it as an opportunity for honest discussions regarding the best ways to prepare for retirement at an early age.

He said: "It might be a sensitive subject, but every member of a family should try and encourage the others to sit down together and talk about this openly."

Mr Mack highlighted how pensions are an issue that affects everyone and it can be helpful for parents to share their experience with their children.

Research by NS&I showed that 31 per cent of British adults have "no idea" about their mother and father's financial plans for the future.

This month, the company announced that the customer who won its monthly £1 million jackpot prize draw was a man from the Wirral, who purchased his winning bond in 1999.
