Pensioners may be using retirement calculator for Irish move

More people may be using a retirement calculator to see if they can move to Ireland after it was recommended as a good destination by one organisation.

Which? Money looked at a number of factors - including quality of medical care and ease of access to the rest of the UK - and rated Ireland top in a list of retirement relocation destinations.

It pointed out that, according to the Department for Work and Pensions, there are already 113,600 British pensioners living there after relocating when they finished work for good.

However, Australia was the most popular place to relocate to, with 250,440 OAPs now enjoying a new life Down Under.

Which? expert Ian Robinson said: "Ultimately, there are many reasons why people might choose to retire aboard. Sunshine, cultural interests and family connections may trump any other factors."

Prudential's Christopher Friel recently advised older people to pay off debts including credit cards as soon as they retire in order to enjoy a good lifestyle.
