Retirement planning 'top of agenda for financial advice'

Making preparations for life after retirement has topped the list of reasons why people seek financial advice, a new study has revealed.

Researchers from unbiased.co.uk found that 41 per cent of internet users utilised independent guidance to ensure they are financially prepared for their future.

The professional advice website measured the most popular search terms used throughout May as part of the research.

Investments and savings, as well as mortgages, were the second and third most popular queries, scoring 28 per cent and 14 per cent respectively.

Karen Barrett, chief executive of unbiased.co.uk, said: "Remaining top of the news agenda, our searches indicate that consumers are giving serious thought to their long-term planning and … they're seeking professional financial advice from an IFA to do this."

The website recently published a survey that revealed British people are making a more conscious effort to increase their savings.

However, researchers also discovered that struggling families are making the smallest repayments since 2009 after borrowing money.
