Drivers 'more honest due to rising car insurance premiums'

Motorists who have found it difficult to find cover amid rising insurance prices could be surprised by new findings from Confused.com.

As part of a new study, the price comparison website revealed a significant reduction in the number of people stretching the truth to ensure lower payments.

Researchers found that just one in seven vehicle owners had lied to ensure cheaper premiums in the past year, with 12 per cent of women and 17 per cent of men being untruthful.

The figures signal a 20 per cent reduction in the number of female drivers lying to gain less expensive insurance in the difficult financial climate.

"While people may be tempted to mislead or even lie to their insurer when trying to combat rising insurance costs, it's certainly not advisable," remarked head of car insurance Gareth Kleot.

The findings emerge after Confused.com announced plans to campaign for a new road sign warning of upcoming potholes in a bid to ensure driver safety.
