CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust tops sector

Co-operative Insurance Services (CIS) has announced that its screened fund has topped more than 300 other unit trusts to be named the best performer in the UK All Companies sector.

The CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust did the best out of 324 unit trusts during 2007, providing a total return of 29.3 per cent.

This was more than double the 13.2 per cent returned by the FTSE All-Share and the average of the UK All Companies sector, which reached 13.3 per cent.

However, this performance is seemingly still not enough to convince people to invest in ethical funds.

Mike Fox, CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust fund manager, has said this type of investment is now "mainstream unit trusts that deserve to be taken seriously by all investors".

He added: "With key drivers that seek to take advantage of growth in ethical consumerism, increased awareness of climate change and takeover interest in businesses that have captured a share of the eco-pound, socially responsible investments are well placed for further growth in the future."

Apart from the CIS Sustainable Leaders Trust, the provider also offers environmentally-friendly insurance.

The car insurance deal, called ecoinsurance, allows policyholders to have 20 per cent of their cars' emissions offset at no extra cost.
