Lloyds TSB Mortgages: Homeowners opting for a DIY move

Homeowners are increasingly opting for a do-it-yourself approach when they move home, according to new research from Lloyds TSB Mortgages.

Some 52 per cent of those surveyed by the bank admitted to shunning the removal experts and planning to shift their possessions themselves.

Meanwhile, one in ten homeowners intend to cut out the middle man and sell their property privately, in order to avoid estate agents fees.

The lender found that on average, people spend £7,434 on their home mover, while one in five fork out over £15,000.

Alison Burns, director of network mortgage sales at Lloyds TSB, commented: "In the current economic environment it's not surprising that consumers are taking a more cost conscious approach to moving home."

Earlier this week, Abbey reported that around two million Brits are planning to capitalise on falling house price by moving home.
