More Brits 'have household insurance than life cover'

Scottish Provident has found that more British adults have insurance cover on their property than they do on their health.

The study by the insurance provider found that 71 per cent of adults have taken out policies on their household property, with 23 per cent having cover in case their electrical goods break.

However, only 44 per cent of those questioned have life insurance cover, with just 15 per cent having insurance if they or their partner suffers from a critical illness.

Susan Barclay, head of marketing at Scottish Provident, said: "It is great to see that people are taking out adequate insurance to cover the items in their homes. However, this should not be at the expense of personal cover."

In October, Scottish Provident was voted as the best critical illness provider in Britain at the 2009 Investment, Life & Pensions Moneyfacts Awards.
