Brits want "more for their money" abroad

Expedia's director of product management Jonathan Cudworth stated that consumers are "keen to get more for their money" during their breaks from work at the moment, which is why destinations such as Malaysia and Indonesia are growing in popularity.

This year will "see holidaymakers willing to spend more on flights to long-haul destinations, in order to find a better value holiday in a higher quality hotel, on arrival", he claimed, adding that he does not expect to see the best value trend change anytime soon.

Mr Cudworth's comments follow recent research from Santander, which revealed 47 per cent of those travelling abroad last year saved money by sorting out their vacations themselves and avoiding agents and tour operators.

The average person reduced expenditure by £423 by cutting out the middle man.
