Yorkshire Bank insurance hails collaborative community effort

The efforts of the police and local community of Hartlepool have been recognised and applauded by Yorkshire Bank insurance.

Head of retail banking at the organisation Steve Fletcher noted that Hartlepool has achieved the biggest reduction in burglaries across England and Wales since 2002-03.

Reports of such crimes have fallen by 65 per cent, with the town recording 962 burglaries in 2008-09.

Mr Fletcher lauded the efforts of the police and local community, but suggested it is still worthwhile for people to sign up for contents insurance, in case they become a victim of a burglar.

"We can all take sensible steps to protect our homes; like mortice locks, alarms and security lights, but the sad fact is, we can never be 100 per cent secure," he added.

Recently, a Yorkshire Bank insurance survey showed that uninsured Brits face an annual bill of £200 million to replace the items that get stolen during burglaries.
