The price comparison site's head of car insurance Steve Sweeney suggested there may be many motorists who bought a brand new 59 registration car last September that may have come with 12 months free insurance.
He accepted that this is a great deal, but claimed it is important to "stay savvy" and scour the market for the best deal when it comes to renewing the policy.
"You could find yourself paying a significantly inflated premium if you stick to the same provider, as the policy is unlikely to be very competitive," said Mr Sweeney.
In his opinion, there are often different arrangements that suit distinct circumstances.
Last week, moneysupermarket.com revealed that many under-35s have crashed their vehicles on purpose in order to collect money on a fraudulent claim, with many more suggesting they would be willing to do something similar.
