Alexander Hall notes interest in fixed rate mortgages

There has been significant interest in fixed rate mortgages recently, according to an expert from Alexander Hall.

Andy Pratt, chief operating officer at the broker, explained that many of the customers who have signed up to such products may have paid a "slight premium" to ensure the security of a definite monthly payment.

He said: "There is more interest certainly in terms of ... fixed products than we have seen in a while, just because clients wanted to understand what options were out there for them."

In his view, the recent burst in mortgage activity experienced in the UK in November is likely to have fallen again in December.

Figures released by the Council of Mortgage Lenders showed transaction levels actually dropped five per cent between October and November 2010.

Mr Pratt suggested the most interesting part of the mortgage sector is currently the remortgage side of the market, since there are more opportunities for completing transactions.
