Jill Butterwood, intermediary transformation manager at the bank, said that this is a "much more straightforward system", which puts Alliance & Leicester ahead of its competitors.
The introduction of the new number is part of a number of measures the bank is taking to try and improve communications with intermediaries.
It also launched an e-welcome pack at the end of last year for new broker contacts, which aims to provide them with a comprehensive introduction to the workings of the bank.
"Intermediaries are a key part of our mortgage business and as such our service and commitment to them is a priority," Ms Butterwood added.
Alliance & Leicester recently announced the introduction two new mortgage deals; a two-year fixed-rate and a buy-to-let two-year fixed-rate product.
