Barclaycard Business publishes Mother's Day report

A report has been released today by Barclaycard Business detailing the varying spending practices in areas of the country on Mother's Day.

When it came to buying flowers last year, people in Uxbridge in Middlesex spent the most, paying out an average of £53, followed by Kilmarnock in Scotland where around £37 was spent.

Belfast residents spent the most on taking their mothers out for dinner, spending £53 on treating them to a restaurant trip, followed closely by people in the Isle of Man, who spent £52.

The Barclaycard Business survey also considered more general spending in wider regions of the UK, with Scotland topping the table with an average transaction amount of £33, with the Midlands at the bottom of the table with a level of £27.

"Spending habits change in different ways and for different reasons up and down the country," said Brendan Rogers, a Barclaycard Business spokesman.

"By analysing the data taken from both credit and debit cards, we are able to paint a pretty good picture of how different areas and demographics spend their money for occasions such as Mother's Day."

Barclaycard Business claims to be one of the largest acquirers and processors of card transactions in Europe, with over 92,000 retailer and business relationships.
