Yorkshire Building Society Home Insurance offers 'cover as standard'

Yorkshire Building Society Home Insurance could offer additional cover features, which could cost extra with other providers, 'as standard'.

The company claims that the country spends about £7 billion a year on home insurance and that some customers choose their insurance packages based purely on cost – occasionally meaning that they are not fully aware of what they are paying for.

Providers use "tricks" such as charging extra for customers who want to pay on a monthly basis or for 24-hour emergency assistance cover, Yorkshire states.

Yorkshire Building Society Home Insurance claims that it is different in that it offers a competitively priced product with various extra benefits as well as an increased standard cover level of £50,000.

"At the Yorkshire we have designed our home insurance to go the extra mile when an unwelcome event occurs," said Gary Fowler, the company's insurance manager.

"So if you lose your house keys, we'll not only replace them but we'll replace the locks as well, or if your pipes burst on Christmas Day our standard home emergency cover will find you a plumber and pay for the emergency repairs."

Yorkshire claims to be one of the largest building societies in the UK with 131 branches and 75 agencies.
