People approaching retirement should ensure they keep contributing to their pension, according to a source at LV=.

Head of pensions at the company Ray Chinn described how those individuals getting close to their retirement age are entering a "crucial time" in terms of savings.

In his opinion, people could feel a lot more relaxed about the process if they speak to a professional about how they can ensure they achieve the level of pension income they want.

"These days there are far more financial options available as you reach retirement age," he said.

Mr Chinn highlighted the possibility of utilising enhanced annuities and the equity from property as examples of the sort of transactions that can provide people with additional money when they stop working.

This week, the LV= representative revealed the company is looking into making its discounted offer on the Flexible Transitions Account, which is currently only available until the end of the year, a permanent part of the range.
