Co-operative Insurance reveals money saving tips for new families

Families on a budget have been given tips on saving money by Co-operative Insurance, after it was revealed the cost of bringing up a child in the first five years is estimated to be around £50,000.

Co-operative Insurance offers advice on things like getting an appropriate mortgage to cut down on monthly outgoings and using real nappies rather than disposables, a move which could save parents as much as £300 per year.

Other advice on the Co-operative Insurance list of tips includes suggesting that parents re-evaluate the choice of car they drive and remember to claim child benefit payments to which all parents are entitled.

David Newman, director of marketing at Co-operative Insurance, said: "The emotional and physical strain of starting a family is stressful enough for most people. Add to that the financial strain and the whole experience can become quite daunting."

Co-operative Insurance offers a range of products including home and motor insurance.
