Custom Timber Build: Wooden chalets add value to property

Wooden chalets in people's gardens for their grown-up children to live in are "a very sensible way" of improving the value of a property, it has been claimed.

Richard Sharman, director of Custom Timber Build, said that "any improvement, addition or alteration that adds value is going to be beneficial".

The bedroom cabins, known as "kid's digs", cost around £40,000 for two.

Asked whether they were a wise investment, Mr Sharman replied: "We think it is and it's proved to be in the past from the significant number of buildings we've done."

Kid's digs hit the headlines last month when it was reported by the Metro that some parents were building them for their adult children.

Finance website Fool.co.uk reported in April that 23 per cent of 24 to 34-year-olds were worried about negative equity.

In addition, 13 per cent of people cancelled plans to move, waiting for the housing market to stabilise.
