Sainsbury's: Car insurance up by nearly 6%

The latest Sainsbury's Car Insurance Index found that the average premium in June 2008 cost £514.36.
It is the first time since the index began in June 2005 that the average premium has exceeded £500.
In July 2007, the figure was £486.13.
Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's car insurance manager, said causes of the increase included rises in personal injury claims and repairs.
She said a recent Sainsbury's car insurance survey found that nearly 65 per cent of drivers admit to potentially dangerous activity such as eating or using mobile phones while driving.
"By cutting out these practices we can reduce the chance of being involved in an accident," she said.
Meanwhile, Allianz Insurance has introduced a kitemark for motor repairs.
Repairers wishing to gain the approval can potentially increase their labour rates by up to £2 an hour.
The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) will work with Allianz to help bodyshops meet the new specification.
Ray Holloway of the RMIF, said it would be "a further raising of industry standards".
