The Motley Fool: Property investments most popular

The Motley Fool has conducted a poll which reveals that property is still the number one choice for investors, despite the effect of the recession on house prices.

According to the survey, 30 per cent of investors would choose to put their money into property if they received a £50,000 windfall.

The price comparison site found that women view property as a safer bet than men, with 41 per cent of women claiming their windfall would be put into bricks and mortar, outnumbering men who would plump for property by two to one.

However, David Kuo, director at The Motley Fool, said: "For those who already own a house, it is vital that they spread the risk by investing in other inflation-beating assets such as shares."

The most recent Halifax House Price Index revealed that the price of the average UK home fell by 3.6 per cent in the three months to February this year.
