Sainsbury's pet insurance tips provided

Sainsbury's has offered a few tips to pet insurance customers to help them avoid the loss of their furry friends.

Ensuring that pets wear a collar and identification tag is one crucial step, while having the animal microchipped is also recommended.

Homeowners should also make sure that fences or boundaries around the property are secure, to make it difficult for pets to flee and for burglars to get in.

If walking one's dog, the pet owner should always make sure it is supervised and steer clear of leaving it tied up outside shops.

The advice comes after pet insurance research revealed that only 55 per cent of people whose cat or dog went missing in the past five years ever saw it alive again.

In related news, Sainsbury's Home Insurance recently revealed that the average cost of replacing household goods following a fire or major disaster is £44,500.
