Peak day for house burglaries on the horizon, says Saga

This Saturday (June 6th) is, statistically, the day that will see the most house burglaries take place among Saga Personal Finance customers, the company has warned.

According to the firm, which deals in insurance policies for the over-50s, more burglaries take place in June than other months of the year as its customers are more likely to set off on their holidays around this time.

They are also leaving their homes more in the evenings as they enjoy the sunnier weather and long days, the company adds.

Executive chairman of the Saga Group Andrew Goodsell commented: "If people are going away for a fortnight or just popping out for the evening, they should always check their property is as safe and secure as possible."

In April, Norwich Union warned that burglaries could increase by as much as 50 per cent in the UK as the recession forces people into desperation.
