Bank of Scotland 'charged customers' accounts twice'

The Bank of Scotland experienced a technical hitch this week as its customers' accounts were charged for the same transactions twice, it has emerged.

A spokesman for the bank said that the problem only affected a small number of people paying for items using the chip and pin system and that they have now been reimbursed.

The representative added: "We have fixed the problem and will make sure any customers affected are reimbursed in full by tomorrow at the latest."

However, some businesses have expressed anger about the fault, as customers wrongly believed that it was their fault they had been charged twice.

It has not just caused problems for businesses, as couple Kaj Harrison and Joanne Burge, who are due to marry at the weekend, have also been affected.

Their wedding account was left overdrawn after they were charged twice for a £4,414 hotel bill.
