Saga Travel Insurance says over-50s beat the queues

Over-50s are more likely to wait until September to go on holiday, according to Saga Travel Insurance.

Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of the organisation, commented that 14 per cent more policies have been sold this month than in the previous month.

Research conducted by Saga Travel Insurance last year showed that 61 per cent of older people took holidays in September 2008 and the number of policies sold this month follows that trend.

Mr Goodsell noted that the most popular places for customers to go this month are the United States, France, Italy and Spain.

He added: "It appears that for many of the over-50s, recession concerns are diminishing fast".

A recent study by the company suggested that the most popular day of this month for over-50s to travel is Saturday September 12th, when Saga expects to see a 'silver rush'.

This week, the financial services provider also announced that it has brought out a new insurance policy to cover motorcyclists over 50 years old.
