OVO energy price cut 'races into the lead'

Gareth Kloet, head of energy at the comparison website, said the company beats others on price by ensuring a fixed tariff at £855 at the same time the reductions of the 'big six' have come into effect.

He added: "It has recently become a battle of the new kids on the block with Ovo undercutting First Utility … in the battle to prove they are the best new player in the energy market."

However, Mr Kloet explained customers should continue to compare prices in the marketplace in order to achieve the most competitive deal.

Moneysupermarket.com recently revealed that despite the trend of energy bill reductions, many people struggled to pay to heat their homes over the winter months.

Research undertaken by the website showed that 78 per cent of people found it difficult to warm their houses during the winter.
