Consumers must take responsibility for decisions, says uSwitch

It is up to consumers to shoulder some of the responsibility for signing up to ineffective financial products, a representative from uSwitch has claimed.

Senior PR manager at the organisation Jo Ganly stressed that it is also up to the financial services industry to take some of the blame, but not all of it.

She recommended not signing up for a product if a person is not completely sure about it.

In her view, it can be a good idea to simply take some literature home and read about a service, so that an individual can be certain they will benefit from it.

Ms Ganly said: "Always check products out before signing up, read the small print and make sure you understand what you are getting."

Which? recently conducted research into the most ineffective financial products and listed secured loans, mobile phone insurance, debt management plans and packaged accounts as potentially being poor choices.
