Santander 'one of the best student bank accounts'

The student bank account offered by Santander has one of the best in-credit interest rates on the market, the firm has announced.

Head of Santander current accounts Helen Bierton pointed out that this rate is complemented by applicants being offered an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000, in addition to several other perks.

She said: "Santander's Student Current Account is designed to offer students the support they need from their bank throughout their time at university."

Applicants will be offered an interest-free overdraft of up £1,000 in the first year of their studies, with free insurance for their mobile, laptop or other gadgets.

Ms Bierton claimed that the quality of the product being offered to students shows how committed the firm is to helping such customers look after their finances.

Recently, Confused.com offered advice to students opening bank accounts, suggesting they avoid going over their authorised overdraft limit as it can be costly.
