Brits 'should utilise Isa allowances'

Making use of the full Isa allowance has been highlighted as one of the most cost-effective methods of investment in the present volatile economic environment.

Individuals across the UK have been advised by Graham Spooner, investment research analyst at The Share Centre, that the investment Isa is less risky than traditional share trading and offers the potential for greater returns than simple savings accounts.

He commented: "The continuing European debt crisis and the underlying problems in the economic environment means the markets remain increasingly volatile and uncertain. Because of this we have seen a lack of confidence amongst many investors."

According to research recently carried out by Nationwide, 95 per cent of workers under the age of 35 are not presently investing in retirement funds as a result of the difficult economic conditions in the UK.

Richard Marriott, Nationwide's head of savings, argued encouraging young people to save from an early age is a habit that will stand them in good stead throughout their lives.
