Barclaycard waives payments for flood-stricken customers

Barclaycard has responded to the extreme flooding that has hit parts of the UK by waiving the minimum monthly payment for those affected.

The credit card provider has waived the requirement for all customers in flood-stricken areas for the next 30 days.

In addition, Barclaycard will not charge interest on the minimum amount that goes unpaid and will charge no late fee.

"Where customers have been hit by floods and power cuts, I imagine making a credit card payment is the last thing on their mind," said Amer Sajed, Barclaycard managing director for UK cards.

"Waiving the monthly payment means there is one less thing for our customers to worry about."

In the UK, Barclaycard has 9.8 million customers. The company claims that there are 6.4 million of its international cards in circulation.

Earlier this month, Barclaycard launched a new card called Barclaycard Football which offers zero per cent interest on season ticket purchases.
