Halifax: Mature gap years require planning

Research by Halifax Unsecured Personal Loans indicates that 49 per cent of 55 to 64-year-olds would consider taking time off work to go travelling.
Russell Galley, director of loans at the bank, pointed out that it can be useful to take out a personal loan to fund a gap year and that a Halifax loan does not have any monthly repayments for the first three months.
He said: "A mature gap year is a wonderful opportunity to experience different ways of life and see other parts of the world. But such a big adventure requires careful financial planning."
The research published by the organisation showed that 18 per cent of older people who would consider taking a gap year would be willing to spend more than £5,000 on the trip.
This week, Post Office Travel Insurance published the results of a survey which showed that 21 per cent of parents have visited their children while they have been away abroad.
