Price comparison site moneysupermarket.com has suggested that people should consider which credit cards incentives suit them best before choosing a provider.

Head of banking at the organisation Kevin Mountford claimed that a card can become a "white elephant" if people are not using it in the right places, since some products are tied in to certain retailers or purchase types.

He recommended that somebody who enjoys shopping should look out for credit cards that give them money off what they buy, while those who travel a lot may wish to opt for air miles.

Mr Mountford remarked: "With each scheme offering its customers something unique, consumers need to work out what sort of rewards suit their personal circumstances and shop around for the best deal."

The moneysupermarket.com credit cards spokesperson recently highlighted how customers must keep an eye on when their zero per cent interest deals finish, in order to save the most cash.
