Positive news for 'nearly all' UK regions, according to Nationwide housing market document

Homeowners across most of the UK may be happy to hear that house prices have gone up in many locations in the country, a Nationwide housing market study has indicated.

However, this is not the case in all areas, with Northern Ireland seeing the quarterly rate fall from -1 per cent to -5.7 cent from the first quarter of the year to the second.

Martin Gabhauer, Nationwide's chief economist, highlighted how the south-west of England has seen the strongest growth during the past three months, with prices rising by three per cent.

"For the UK as a whole, prices rose by 1.9 per cent in the quarter, leading to a slight increase in the annual growth rate from 8.8 per cent in the first quarter to 9.5 per cent," he added.

Nationwide housing market research released this week showed that a typical house in the UK increased in price by 0.1 per cent in June.
