Churchill Car Insurance: Motorists unaware of code changes

Churchill Car Insurance has raised concerns that many drivers are not aware of updates to the Highway Code safety rules.

For example, 84 per cent do not realise that playing loud music is against the rules, while 65 per cent have admitted to eating while driving - which is not permitted.

Meanwhile, 30 per cent said that they thought driving in high heels or flip-flops was against the rules, when in reality that is not the case.

Spokesperson for Churchill Car Insurance Abi Clark advised drivers to investigate the recent changes and added: "Drivers should not live by the Highway Code alone, but also use their common sense when driving.

"Anything that distracts motorists from looking at the road, or prevents them from driving safely should be avoided at all costs so that accidents can be prevented."

In March, research from Churchill revealed that many motorists are afraid of right turns.
