AA: People are using cars to save money

Drivers are accepting fuel prices but using their cars to reduce costs in other ways, the AA has said.
A spokesperson explained that cars are often "indispensible" for people who need them to go to work.
He explained that people are adopting a "more efficient and money saving" way of using their vehicles, such as using a smaller car for weekends and combining trips together.
"There are changes that people have been making," the spokesman said, adding that other cutbacks include buying what is needed when shopping, not necessarily what is wanted.
Recent research by esure car insurance found that 48 per cent of UK motorists are being made to consider reducing their cars to one per household as they try to cope with the increased costs of running a vehicle.
In the same poll, 71 per cent of drivers said they are not buying a new car in order to save money while 58 per cent said they were keeping their old vehicle as the values of used cars are dropping.
