According to the poll, one in ten people in the UK spend more time in their cars than they do in their houses, a figure which rises to one in five for those living in London.
Admiral Insurance also found that many people view this time in the car as quality time they get to spend by themselves and 62 per cent of Brits prefer not to carry passengers when they drive.
Sue Longthorn, the managing director of Admiral Insurance, said: "In a world where social networking and being constantly available are so valued, it might be that motorists are […] seeking some solace in their cars."
Admiral Insurance was launched in 1993 and was specifically aimed at city-living customers who drive hot hatches and traditionally pay higher than average car insurance premiums.
