Keeping your shed secure

Homeowners have been reminded that the contents of their garden sheds are just as much at risk of being burgled as valuables that are kept within the home.

This comes after insurance provider esure conducted a survey which revealed that 30 per cent of householders store non-garden related items in their shed, treating it like a spare room.

Moreover, the company revealed that more than two-thirds of homeowners have not even considered upgrading their garden security.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure, advised: "Homeowners should check the terms and limits of their home insurance policies. Some cover could be too low, especially in the event of an outdoor theft where a shed is bulging with valuables."

Meanwhile, AXA recently warned of the dangers homeowners could face by leaving their property underinsured while on holiday this Easter.
