Flood advice from More Than Insurance

As more storms are forecast to hit Britian this weekend, More Than Insurance has offered advice on how homeowners can protect their property and what to do should the worst happen.

Following the floods that have struck Cumbria and parts of Scotland so far this week, More Than suggests that if homeowners fear their property could be at risk from flooding, they should have sandbags at hand as these can help to keep out the water. Sandbags are sometimes available from local councils.

Taking valuable items to an upper floor is likely to prevent them being damaged by rising water - and moving vehicles to somewhere that is unlikely to be reached by the flood can prevent the need to make another insurance claim.

Additionally, switching off gas and electricity at the source can stop potential accidents from occurring.

Preparing a flood pack which contains dry clothing, a torch, bottles of water and a first aid kit can help prepare a household should the floods take time to subside.

Earlier this month, the insurance provider launched the Premier insurance plan, which allows customers to purchase their contents, building, travel and car insurance together through its website.
