People's finances are suffering because of unforeseen financial occurrences (UFOs), such as their boiler breaking down or needing emergency dental treatment.
Only twenty per cent of people are able to use their savings to cover unexpected costs the Lloyds TSB Personal Loans research suggests.
Lloyds TSB Personal Loans are allowing customers to ask for one month break from making their loan repayments so they can deal more easily with UFOs.
Jason Nichols, Lloyds TSB consumer lending manager, said: "When our customers experience a UFO they want to be able to choose what is the best way for them to pay for it, taking into account their financial situation at that time."
Lloyds TSB Personal Loans also offers payment protection and card protection on the credit cards.
