Nationwide account access via iPhone and iPod touch

Personal finance management on the move is now available to members of building society Nationwide, it has emerged.

The group has announced that consumers will be able to access their accounts via Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch.

With the majority of consumers citing convenience as their main reason for banking online, mobile-based financial management may also appeal to Britons, suggested Mik Hodsdon, divisional director at Nationwide.

"It's always a good idea to check your accounts regularly and we are delighted to be able to offer our members greater access to do just that," he said.

The deal marks Nationwide as one of the first financial service providers to offer online banking via mobile devices, Mr Hodsdon added.

Recent research by Ipsos MORI on behalf of Nationwide found that 68 per cent of people who use online banking also manage more than half of their finances on the internet.

Abbey last month found that 38 per cent of consumers believe they have started to save more money since they began managing their finances online.
