Savings deals 'still available'

There are still plenty of good deals available in the fixed rate savings market despite a continued fall in rates, moneyfact.co.uk has claimed.

According to Rachel Thrussell, head of savings at the personal finance website, consumers could still find some attractive rates if they shop around.

"Although we have seen a dramatic drop in some short term fixed rate savings over the last couple of weeks there are still some really good deals to be found," she said.

She pointed out that although Alliance & Leicester has pulled its seven per cent fixed rate bond from the market Northern Rock is offering a new 6.9 per cent deal.

Bradford & Bingley has also launched three new fixed rate bonds offering rates of up to at 6.7 per cent for their savers.

This demonstrates the need to act fast and look carefully at what different savings providers are offering in order to avoid missing out, Ms Thrussell said.

She claimed that with the Bank of England poised to make further cuts in base rates fixed rate savings deals could offer more stability than non-fixed varieties.
