Saving "sexy again" for young people

Saving is becoming a priority again for young people as the credit card and student debts pile up, according to a savings exert.

Emma Byrne said that putting away money is now "sexy again" among many 18 to 34-year-olds, after new research showed that for that age group, savings is a bigger financial priority than for the over-55s.

"People are realising that this mass-consumerism and 'have it all' society are beginning to fade away," she added.

Ms Bryne urged consumers who are able to save to ensure they make their money work for them by putting it into a high-interest account.

A recent study from Kaupthing by Opinium Research showed that men felt they needed an average of £101,999 to be financially secure, whereas women said they needed £82,193, giving an overall average of £92,507.
