Cheshire Building Society postal account brought to branches

A postal savings account has now been made available at branches by Cheshire Building Society.
The Cheshire Premier Postal Savings Account, which gives an interest rate of 5.75 per cent gross, carries a one per cent introductory bonus and is guaranteed until May 31st 2009.
A minimum balance of £5,000 is required for investors to save up to £50,000.
They can also withdraw as much as £500 by cheque per request.
David Gibson, senior marketing manager at Cheshire, said that the account had been so well received that it had been decided to introduce it to branches as well.
Last month, Cheshire raised its rates on three fixed-rate bond products.
It enabled customers to secure a guaranteed return of 6.8 per cent gross on one, two or three-year deposits of £1,000 to £2,000,000.
Mr Gibson said it was a "viable alternative" to investing in stocks and shares, given the current economic instability.
