Halifax offers credit card deal to help start the New Year

Halifax has announced the launch of a new online credit card deal which is aimed at helping customers consolidate their debts at the start of the New Year.

Research by the bank suggests that January is seeing an increase in customer requests for credit card balance transfers, as customers shift their Christmas debt across from more expensive lenders such as store cards and loans.

Halifax claims that its new All In One credit card, which provides zero per cent interest for nine months on both balance transfers and purchases, could save customers an average of £151 this year.

Alan Brindley, head of Halifax card services, said: "The card is ideal for customer who would like to reduce the cost of their spending or even reduce the cost of outstanding debt through a balance transfer."

Recent research by Gocompare.com found that sorting out personal finances was the most popular New Year's resolution for 2009.
