Abbey credit card takes top prize

An Abbey credit card has taken one of the top prizes at an awards ceremony which recognises achievement in the credit card industry.

The bank's Abbey Zero Credit Card won the prize for best new card product of the year, beating off stiff competition from the other nominees which included offerings from American Express, Barclaycard, Bank of America and HBOS Ireland.

Abbey's winning credit card was launched last April and offers interest of zero per cent on balance transfers and zero per cent on purchases for the first six months.

Roger Lovering, managing director of credit cards at Abbey, said: "The award category had some impressive entries and was well represented. Therefore, I am particularly pleased that Abbey Zero has been recognised by the industry."

Abbey is part of the international banking group Santander, which provides services to more than 65 million customers worldwide.
