Go online for best savings accounts, advises Moneynet.co.uk rep

A Moneynet.co.uk expert has told consumers they should check the web to find the most competitive deals on savings products.

Andrew Hagger, a spokesperson for the website, suggested people who do not go online are losing out.

He explained: "Because their costs are lower, they tend to pass that on to the customers who use internet and telephone related products."

In his opinion, some people may be wary of using the internet for banking due to the security aspect of the matter, but he claimed this could be remedied by advising customers on how to stay safe online.

Mr Hagger accepted that there is not much banks can do for people who cannot afford to sign up for the web at home, but he supported the idea of setting up terminals in branches.

His comments follow research by Which? showing that individuals saving online could be 37 per cent better off than those who are only able to put money aside with 'offline' products.
